Bedfordshire: A5 to M1 link road

The A5 to M1 link road is crucial for the further economic development of Bedfordshire.

Providing a link from Milton Keynes to the M1, the A5 currently runs through Dunstable where there is extreme congestion, a situation exacerbated by problems on the M1forcing heavy goods vehicles through the town centre.

The situation is not sustainable. Businesses experience considerable difficulty in moving people and goods and money is wasted by industry through delays to its workforce and customers. The retail environment is being slowly destroyed whilst for residents the quality of life is compromised by severe pollution and poor road safety.

The proposed link road offers a solution to the problem. The plan is to construct a two-lane dual carriageway running east from the A5 north of Dunstable to join the M1 at a new Junction 11a south of Chalton.

Unfortunately the planning system has caused enormous delays. The link road was planned for 2008-09 but has now been delayed until 2015-16, causing unnecessary years of pain for businesses and residents.

Norfolk: A11 Fiveways to Thetford duelling scheme

Norwich is the largest City in the United Kingdom not connected to a motorway by a duel-carriageway road.

The reason?
There remains a section of single carriageway on the A11 trunk road between the Fiveways roundabout at Barton Mills and Thetford. The A11 to Norwich was previously meant to have been duelled by 2008. The current estimate for the construction of the road is 2012/13.

Sign the petition to show your frustration at the road still not being duelled.
